NUNO SOUSA VIEIRA

Born in Leiria, Portugal, 1971

Presented by ESPACIO OLVERA

The Portuguese artist established in Lisbon, Nuno Sousa Vieira, uses images from reality which once they have been processed and handled are transferred to graphite on paper in a series of large-format compositions strictly in black and white, which by means of a marked geometry stress their real origin. His interest in reusing materials or objects is especially evident in this work, in which he explores the relationship between our society and the culture of waste that we have generated in a deeper look at the opposition between consumption and use compared with obsolescence. He trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon University, where he obtained a master’s degree in Painting and studied a doctorate. Nuno Sousa Vieira has had a multidisciplinary international career and includes in his projects drawing, sculpture, and the installation of objects he finds.
