ALFONSO ALBACETE

Malaga, Spain, 1950

OGAMI PRESS

In a visit to the Samurai castle Himeji in Japan, Alfonso Albacete (Malaga, 1950), was really attracted by the shape of embrasures –the holes in the walls to watch or shoot the enemy that made out a line of figures alternating triangles, circles and squares as in a geometrical set: “This reminded me immediately to that Cézanne proposal in which Nature could be seen as a set of cones, cylinders, and spheres whose projection on a plane in the shape of triangles, squares and circles was suitable to represent any existing model”.
From this trip, “Zénzanne” is born, a project created by Ogami Press in close relation with the artist. On the basis of these three simple forms, Albacete builds an investigation on light and landscape in which how colour and form modify perspective can be observed. The different printing techniques used display in a set of pieces that are numbered and unique at the same time. The result is a set of 36 unique works made with etching on copper, woodcut, silk printing and monotype on paper.
