EMILIO GONZÁLEZ SAINZ

Spain, 1961

Emilio lives a life split between his walks and his frequentation of books, maps and stories. Unfolded and fluid, because he seems to see the cliffs with Friedrich’s eyes, but also, when he looks at paintings or prints in books, it is as if he were walking along them, inhaling scents and sounds. He uses it as an activation, as a serene excitement of something that already belongs to him. He is selective and exalted, humble and fanatical. His works are forged by these four values, to which we must add another one, which is none other than the certainty of those who know what they are doing, and this enables them to enjoy their works to the point of going for a walk through their own paintings or watercolours. Emilio Gonzáles Sainz goes in and out of landscapes which, as well as being common to many of his masters, are his own. He paints things and places he knows, together with those he does not know but imagines.
