JESÚS ALBERTO PÉREZ CASTAÑOS

The drawings and paintings of Jesús Alberto Pérez Castaños present an excessive figurative imagery, with an intense decorative effect, through which a sensation of existential unease is perceived. A consequence of this is the cumulative effect of lines (scribbles) and colours, in an effort to overcome the emptiness, the silence, the uncreated, the unnamed (letters) and the shapeless (drawing).

In the words of art historian Marta Mantecón, « This colourful iconography with its crazy and noisy staging shows the author’s devotion to urban and street cultures: from graffiti, comics and illustration to literature and cinema, passing through psychedelia, Anglo-American pop and neo-expressionist bad painting ».
