Manuel Gantes has a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Drawing from the same Faculty. He exhibits his work since 1985 and is represented in several national and international public collections, namely those of Luciano Benetton, Venice, Italy; CAC de Malaga, Ateliers 63, Amsterdam, or L’Ariap, Lille, among others.
“In the relationship between the viewer and the painted, there is a fundamental experience of time: remember that you are mortal, without art there is no real life, everything is illusion. That is why art matters, as a form of reflection on the nothing that remains and the nothing that remains is art. The time of drawing never ends, despite the changes made in its field, which only confirm the vastness and the complex simplicity of the drawing invented by the ‘Cavemen’, the youngest of the young”.
